Christ Church is a parish of Barbados at the southern end of the island. The main areas in Christ Church are Oistins, Saint Lawrence Gap, Hastings and Worthing.

Christ Church is the second most populated parish of Barbados with access to many of the most spectacular beaches. The area attracts couples and family holiday groups from all over the world, because of the wide sandy beaches, and good choice of places to eat, bars and nightclubs. Christ Church is home to the Saint Lawrence Gap, which is a popular strip of bars and restaurants, while Oistins is its largest town. Grantley Adams International Airport is situated in the east of Christ Church.

Famous Christ Church beaches include Sandy Beach, Long Beach, Miami Beach, Saint Lawrence Beach and Oistins Beach. There is plenty to see and do too. The beaches of the south coast of Barbados tend to be slightly calmer than the Atlantic east coast, where the majority of the island’s surfing takes place.

Christ Church beaches still have more breeze than the sheltered Caribbean west coast, so here you’ll see and possibly do kite and wind-surfing but they are still ideal for swimming and snorkelling.

Sights and places to see in Christ Church, Barbados

Oistins is a major fishing community in Barbados with a modern fishing market. Visitors can see Barbadian fishing boats (at right) and the weaving of fishing nets by local fishermen. Just around the corner from Oistins is Miami Beach, a great place to take a swim!

Saint Lawrence Gap is often referred to as The Gap, which is the most lively tourist area on the island. Many of the bars and clubs are well populated by locals and tourists alike. Entertainment in Barbados starts in St. Lawrence Gap! A stroll through reveals a number of nightclubs, catering to all musical tastes. St.Lawrence Gap is also famous for its fine restaurants and good shopping.

Hastings is a small village and beach resort on the south-western coast. It has a beautiful white sandy beach and is often a favorite for surfing on the island.

On the south coast of Barbados is the beautiful white sandy beach of Worthing. The sea in this area offers a multitude of delights for all. Just off-shore within swimming distance is an interesting coral reef to discover, filled with tropical fish. On the inside of this reef the swimming is extremely safe, the calm waters make it especially good for children and beginner-swimmers.

The islands climate tends to be nice throughout the year although June to October is the hurricane season. The peak season is December to May as they are the cooler and dryer months.

The international airport is 10 miles from Bridgetown and is undergoing a large expansion. There are several airlines that offer direct flights. Buses are the best and cheapest way to manoeuvre around the island and there are plenty of taxis available and the fares are fixed by the government. Renting a car offers you more freedom to get around and you also drive on the left-hand side here, temporary driving permits are required and they are easily obtainable.
